The newly opened Gunnedah Rural Health Centre GP Super Clinic has been designed with a dedicated education wing.
The latest medical and IT equipment
The wing provides 4 dedicated training consultation rooms. The rooms can be utilised by medical, allied health and nursing students with these rooms being fully fitted out with the latest medical and IT equipment. There are also permanently installed wireless video cameras in each of the rooms enabling students the opportunity to have real or mock consultations recorded for later discussion with their supervisor. The feedback session can be undertaken in the library section of the training room.
The large training room has a dedicated library area, a large board table, interactive whiteboard, video conferencing and teleconferencing equipment as well as a small kitchenette.
Health professionals that are in training are able to link back into their Universities ensuring that they can still meet their Universities' requirements while undertaking their rural placements. The education wing also provides the opportunity for the current medical, allied health, nurses and practice staff to be able to meet their continuing professional development requirements onsite through either the use of video conferencing equipment or an education events being held at the centre.
Support for returning to the Workforce
There is also the opportunity for medical, allied health and nurses who are returning to the workforce to receiving some mentoring support through utilising the education wing. Training opportunities occur throughout the entire centre with the multidisciplinary integrated primary health care model that the centre operates by.
The education wing can be utilised by any of the health professional working in the Gunnedah area as well non-health professional provided the event that they are hosting has a health focus. The education wing also provides networking opportunities between the health professionals working in Gunnedah as there is now a dedicated venue for meetings and education events.
